Serving in Stockport
Rising to international fame in the 1800s. Stockport was the home of the nation’s hatting industry, producing over 6 million hats a year for customers around the world.
Its rich history is entrenched in its architecture; the borough is home to over 380 listed buildings, six ancient monuments and one of the most iconic viaducts in the UK, built-in 1840, a predominant landmark of the region that has featured in many LS Lowry paintings. Its 27 brick arches carry the mainline railway from Manchester to the South.
Renowned for its architecture, it also has a booming gastronomy scene, a popular food/drink market every month, excellent commuter links and some stunning scenery all within a stone’s throw of the centre, making Stockport a popular place to live and work.
The region has almost 300,000 residents, with almost 122,000 households, making it one of the largest towns in the UK. Add to this a large number of commercial properties throughout the borough, and you have an extremely varied mix of buildings and properties, some dating back to as early as the 1500s!
